"In every romance there must be the three characters: there must be the Princess, who is a thing to be loved; there must be the Dragon, who is a thing to be fought; and there must be St. George, who is a thing that both loves and fights."

We finished watching The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance the other day, and it was really good. It's quite dark- surprisingly so- though has its moments of humour as well. I suppose the original movie is somewhat dark as well, seeing as how the Gelfling clans have been subjected to genocide at the hands of the ghastly Skeksis and there are only- apparently- two left alive. The knowledge that, despite their seeming victory at the end of this series, the Gelflings will ultimately be defeated and decimated, makes the story feel bittersweet. I'm not sure how long a time period exists between the series and the film, or what happens in that span which results in such disaster, so it will be interesting to see what happens in season two, if there is a season two. I found myself struggling to remember long-forgotten details from The Dark Crystal movie, trying to make connections between that and the show. As I said in my previous post, I haven't seen it in years. I think I'm going to have to revisit the film now that I've watched the series. My sister and her family have been watching the show and, when she signed into Netflix the other day, she found one of the kids had changed her profile picture to the Chamberlain (one of the Skeksis) and her husband's to the General (another one). In my first post on The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, I included the trailer for the show. This time I'll include the trailer for the original 1982 movie:

About MeI'm a lover of good books, classic movies, and well-written shows (as well as some pretty cheesy ones, to be completely honest). Categories
