No kids come to my door on Halloween due to the fact that the entrance can't be seen from the road. Because of this, I've gotten in the habit of going to my sister's place after work, watching a movie, and helping hand out candy there. When I was talking to her the other day, she said the movie that she's picked for us to watch is Hocus Pocus. She has never seen the 1993 Disney film because she was terrified of it when she was a young child and fled the room in which some older siblings were watching it. I, too, have never seen the movie, due to the fact that I once started watching it with some of the family, thought it was dumb, and wandered off to read a book. So I can't say that I'm particularly looking forward to having another go at it, especially since I find Bette Midler about as charming as a rusting cheese grater. Oh well... I'll bring a book along just in case.

This image is from the 1944 film Arsenic and Old Lace, my favourite Halloween movie, which stars Cary Grant as Mortimer Brewster and Raymond Massey as his creepy brother Jonathan. In this scene, Jonathan and his partner in crime Dr. Hermann Einstein (Peter Lorre), on the run from the police, have arrived at the home of Jonathan's- and Mortimer's- two aunts with a dead body in their car. They decide to rid themselves of it by burying it in the basement but to their shock, they discover that there are already a dozen bodies buried down there...
