As I said, the rest of the episodes were at least marginally better than the season opener, but none of it really grabbed me. Proof of this was that during the season finale ( a cliffhanger), which was supposed to be really tense and exciting, I dozed off for a short time. Granted, it was late and I was tired, but I never do that if my mind is really interested and engaged with what's going on, on the screen. I probably won't bother with season 11; I don't really care enough about finding out what happened.
Well, we watched the rest of season 10 and it was... not great. I didn't find the rest of the episodes to be as bad as the first one although perhaps my expectations were just lower. The quality of different episodes varied quite a bit; some a lot better than others, but I found myself struggling to care about any of them and my attention frequently wandered. Fortunately, after the first episode they toned down on the political rhetoric- I guess that they felt that they had sufficiently established their lefty credentials-except for an occasional stray reference to Obamacare, etc. just to remind watchers who the righteous ones are. In earlier seasons, before everyone and everything became so nakedly hyper-political, The X Files used to exist outside of actual politics or administrations and this was a good thing. The politics in season 10 is not only tiresome, it is detrimental to the show since it is always awkwardly shoehorned in and brings unwelcome intrusions of the real world into the story which sit uncomfortably with the fantastical events which are occurring in the plot.
