We spent some time on the Charlottetown waterfront during the evening:
Since we weren't in any hurry yesterday, we took the ferry across to Prince Edward Island instead of the bridge. Heading out of Caribou, Nova Scotia: We spent some time on the Charlottetown waterfront during the evening: My sister playing on an outdoor piano... it was severely out of tune. She was playing "Song For The Mira" which we had actually been listening to just a little earlier at an outdoor concert: "Song For The Mira" may seem like a bit of an odd choice on Prince Edward Island, since it's actually set on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. The song was written by Canadian singer/songwriter Allister MacGillivray, himself a Cape Breton boy born in the coal mining town of Glace Bay. The song is about the Mira River in Cape Breton and the small community of Marion Bridge, located on its banks. Marion Bridge is, as you might guess, named after the bridge which spans the Mira River. This is a photo of the original bridge, built in 1903. It was replaced in the 1980s with a new one. I once stayed in a camp on the Mira River: it was beautiful, but I don't think I've been anywhere where the mosquitoes were larger or more numerous. "Song For The Mira" is MacGillivray's most well-known song, and it has been recorded by artists the world over. Here is a version of it by Heather Rankin, a member of Cape Breton's Rankin Family:
