I left the news running as I worked in the kitchen, listening to reports of the horrors which had occurred- were still occurring- and could only think that it seemed almost indecent to be preparing for these happy occasions while others were suffering so much. This weekend is a Jewish holiday as well, in addition to it being their Sabbath, and I thought how many women in Israel probably spent the last few days doing what I was now: preparing food for celebrations with family and friends. Instead the day brought terror, violence, and death at the hands of depraved and evil men following a depraved and evil ideology.
As for the disgusting individuals- and groups such as CUPE- who are Hamas apologists and cheerleaders, who glory in the murder of innocents, no words can possibly convey the level of contempt I have for them. They are no doubt immune to shame or any decent feeling, but they had better hope (I was going to say 'pray' but never mind) that their lives are never treated with the callous inhumanity and indifference with which they treat the lives of the people of Israel... "with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."
I'll be in church this morning and will be earnestly praying for Israel in its ongoing fight against those who desire destruction and death for the Jewish nation, and for those who have had their lives shattered by these evil events. I will also pray that, if there can be any good to come out of this horrific day, it's that the Trudeau government and the Biden administration reconsider their soft stances on Hamas and stop funding them, directly or indirectly. I don't hold out much hope for this of course; the only thing I'm sure of is that we're governed by fools and cowards.
After church I'll be heading down to the Valley to have Thanksgiving dinner with a lot of the family. As we gather, thoughts of the families who have been torn apart by these terror attacks won't be far from our minds; we'll probably hug our nephews and nieces a little tighter, be a little more thankful for their rambunctiousness and noisy laughter. May God have mercy.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
