I've been watching the horrific footage coming out of Israel until I just needed to take a break from the sadness and anger. I went through some pictures I took on the weekend while with family, always a comfort to me. Saturday night was a bridal shower for my eldest niece; we rented a gym in a local community center for it because it was for family and close friends- a large group. Here's a picture from when we were in the middle of setting up/decorating: Some of the nephews and nieces playing with balloons: The shower and Thanksgiving necessitated much cooking/baking. I made fall leaf sugar cookies, enough to take a dozen to work and have more for the weekend festivities. I also made mini blueberry muffins for the shower: My brother-in-law generally cooks the Thanksgiving turkey, and I usually do the ham: I was also on dessert duty and made a large blackberry cobbler, to be served with whipped cream. After Thanksgiving dinner, the sugared-up kids tore around outside, climbed the front yard tree, then headed down the road to a nearby park to run off the rest of their energy. We frequently go on a Thanksgiving hike, but it wasn't in the cards this time. I also brought along my sister's birthday gift; her birthday isn't until later this week, but I won't see her again until sometime next month. I sewed her a couple of hanging kitchen towels- an every day one and a fall one- and picked up a gift card to go with. Finally, since yesterday was a holiday, I went canoeing with two of my sisters, probably for the last time this year. I'm so thankful for my family, and it makes my heart ache so much to think of the families in Israel which have been so brutally torn apart. Yesterday I looked up the two synagogues closest to where I live and emailed them messages of support, expressing my deep sympathy and outrage. Please consider doing something similar if you can; what with those disgusting individuals who are in our streets celebrating the barbarism of Hamas, I think it's important for our Jewish community members know that there are a lot more of us who support Israel and are earnestly praying for the safety of Jews here and abroad.
