This Sunday I was- and am- on Prince Edward Island with a couple of my sisters. After a full day we returned to our B&B and watched Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 movie Rear Window. In it, professional photographer L.B. Jefferies- played by Jimmy Stewart- is laid up with a badly broken leg. Confined to a wheelchair in his apartment and bored despite visits from his girlfriend Lisa- Grace Kelly- he starts watching what the people who live in the apartment complex across from his from his back window. His shameless peeping is creepy but harmless until Jeff becomes convinced through his observations that one of his neighbours has murdered his wife and is clandestinely, bit by bit, getting rid of the body and all incriminating evidence. Unable to convince the police that a murder has been committed, Jeff launches an investigation from his wheelchair, enlisting the aid of both Lisa and his nurse Stella, played by the always great Thelma Ritter.
