They arrive at the military academy while a meeting is going on in the office about firing Major Kirby. Philip brings in pig-tailed, bobby socked Su-Su and explains that he's just helping a little girl get home safely. All of the school staff is relieved and Pamela declares the wedding back on, offering to put Susan up at their family home until the next train leaves in a few days. She says that Su-Su can share her younger sister Lucy's room. Lucy, a precocious teen, sees through Susan's disguise immediately. She promises not to reveal her secret as long as Susan agrees to help her with her pet project: stymying Pamela's schemes. Lucy explains that Pam, while pretending to support Philip's efforts to get posted overseas for active duty, has secretly been using her connections in Washington to keep him at the academy. Since Lucy despises her sister and likes Philip, she wants to make sure Pamela doesn't get her way. Susan, who has her own reasons for wanting to stop Pamela, agrees to help. Having "Su-Su" staying at an all-boys academy is setting the cat among the pigeons, as the young teen boys vie for her attention. Susan spends a lot of time trying to avoid their clumsy but persistent advances. It is helpful, however, as she manages to charm the student manning the school switchboard away from his post long enough to place a call to Washington. With a number provided by Lucy, Susan impersonates Pamela in a call to her contact, saying that she's changed her mind and wants Philip's transfer to be approved. Lucy also helpfully provides age appropriate clothing, as most of Susan's wardrobe is not conducive for passing as a twelve year old. Major Kirby happens by when one of Su-Su's admirers tries to steal a kiss, leading to Philip awkwardly trying to explain the facts of life to her. Susan then finds out that a local all-girls school has been invited to a dance at the academy, and that she- or rather, Su-Su- is expected to go. Clad in one of Lucy's dresses, Susan is making out all right until it turns out that the father of one of the cadets is the business man that she forcefully turned down when he tried to put the make on her back in New York. He eventually recognises her and reveals her identity to Pamela. Pam is already suspicious of Susan due to the fact that Philip has just informed her that, thanks to her phone call, his transfer has gone through and he's headed overseas. He suggests to Pamela that they get married right away, before he goes. Put on the spot, she tells him that she won't marry on short notice, especially with him leaving to quite probably get involved in the war. Angry and looking for someone to blame, Pam puts two and two together... Su-Su is rooming with Lucy and was caught one night fiddling with the switchboard. Unaware of this, Susan has decided that she needs to come clean to Philip. While they are dancing, she asks him if she can meet with him after the dance. Surprised, Philip agrees and they set a time and place. Susan heads back to Lucy's room to change into her own clothes so that, when she meets with the Major, she'll look like her actual self.
