Warne makes the above statement in anger when, soon after they meet, Ellie insults him by offering to pay him off after he's tried to help her.
"You know, I had you pegged right from the jump. Just a spoiled brat of a rich father. The only way you get anything is to buy it, isn't it? You're in a jam and all you can think of is your money. It never failed, did it? Ever hear of the word humility? No, you wouldn't. I guess it would never occur to you to just say, 'Please mister, I'm in trouble, will you help me?' No, that would bring you down off your high horse for a minute. Well, let me tell you something, maybe it will take a load off your mind. You don't have to worry about me. I'm not interested in your money or your problem. You, King Westley, your father. You're all a lot of hooey to me!" This dialogue is uttered by Peter Warne (Clark Gable) in the 1934 Frank Capra movie It Happened One Night. Headstrong heiress Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) has, in defiance of her father's wishes, married a fortune hunter- King Westley. Her father immediately moves to have the marriage annulled and so she runs away to try to join her new husband. On a Greyhound bus she meets up with Warne, an out of work reporter. He recognises her and promises to help her get to Westley in return for the rights to her story. The two end up on the run together and, in between a series of mishaps and almost constant bickering, they fall in love. Warne makes the above statement in anger when, soon after they meet, Ellie insults him by offering to pay him off after he's tried to help her.
