I did, unfortunately, catch sight of Frances McDormand barking and howling onstage. May I say that she makes a singularly unconvincing wolf; it's a good thing that they'd already given her the award or she might have completely Norbited her chances with that cringe-inducing performance. I also caught a glimpse of Glenn Close ill-advisedly twerking before averting my eyes, feeling embarrassed for her. Is there no age at which these people can school themselves to behave with dignity and class? Apparently that's asking too much. It all reminds me of something Samuel Johnson once said:
"Players, Sir! I look on them as no better than creatures set upon tables and joint stools to make faces and produce laughter, like dancing dogs."
