All this is by way of explanation as to why posting about Vimy went right out of my head, sadly. But here is a short video on the battle, narrated by our own William Shatner:
Yesterday was Vimy Day, and I meant to repost my book review of Vimy by Pierre Burton. Unfortunately, I've been having a bit of a week at my place of employment... it would be an exaggeration to say my desk is buried in paperwork, but all of my invoice and purchase order trays are filled to overflowing and, with all of the other tasks I've been pulled away to handle, I've barely had time to even glance at them. And the piles grow higher. Then I got a text from my landlord yesterday reminding me that they needed to get into my place today to replace all of the electrical outlets and sockets with updated ones. I had, of course, forgotten. So, when I finally dragged myself home from work last night, it was scavenge some supper from leftovers and then to spend the rest of the evening moving my bed, table, sewing machine table, television and DVD player, etc., away from the walls so the electrician could access the outlets. I was just about to plop myself down on the couch (it could stay in place, but the end tables had to move) when I realized that there was an outlet behind one of my bookcases, which was- obviously- loaded with books and too heavy to move with the tomes on it. So I had to take enough books off to be able to move it away from the wall (a few more fell off when I did so). I did not move the refrigerator or stove. I figured there were limits to what I should be expected to do and the big, strong electrician could move them if he needed to; since both of those outlets have been replaced, I assume he managed. This morning before I left for work, I had to run around and make sure everything was unplugged- the last thing was the coffee maker: I needed it to fill my travel mug. All this is by way of explanation as to why posting about Vimy went right out of my head, sadly. But here is a short video on the battle, narrated by our own William Shatner: And here are my two posts about Vimy, the most well-known book written about the battle which to this day Canadians remember with a rather bittersweet pride:
