“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L.M. Montgomery On Friday, I travelled up to New Brunswick for a Ladies' Retreat with a group consisting of a couple of sisters, our new niece-in-law, and a friend from my sisters' church. I always love making the trip from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick at this time of year because of the marvelous colours of the leaves all along the route. We haven't been able to make the trip the last couple of years due to government COVID stupidity... but we won't discuss that right now. The drive was as beautiful as ever, though there were less leaves to look at on our Nova Scotia side of the border, due to the recent hurricane which stripped a lot of trees of their foliage, when it didn't knock down the trees completely. New Brunswick was relatively unscathed by the hurricane, so retained all of its beautiful colours. Here are some shots of the campus where the retreat took place, which is right on the St. John River: October sets thy leaves ablaze, And warms my muse to sing thy praise.” — James Riggs “There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October.” ― Nathaniel Hawthorne “The fallen leaves in the forest seemed to make even the ground glow and burn with light.” ― Malcolm Lowry The friend who was with us hadn't been to New Brunswick before; she's a Maritime province transplant because her husband is in the navy. So of course on the way home we had to show her some of the local claims to fame, such as the Hartland Bridge, which is the longest covered bridge in the world. Also, no trip to New Brunswick is complete without visiting the giant potato, located at a farmer's market not far from Fredericton. I hadn't seen him in a while, and he's had a paint job so is looking a lot more spruced up than when last seen. You can't really tell from this picture, but he's about 19 ft tall.
