Surprised By Joy is an autobiographical work from 1955 in which Lewis details his early life and his conversion to Christianity. Reflections On The Psalms from 1958 is just that- Lewis' thoughts on various Psalms and their themes, ranging from praise to vengeance and cursing. The Four Loves which Lewis wrote in 1960 discusses the concept of love from a Christian perspective, breaking it down into four basic types: storge (empathy), philia (friendship), eros (erotic), and agape (unconditional, Godly love). Finally, The Business of Heaven is a collection of 365 meditations on various Christian themes, using excerpts from many of Lewis' other books to illustrate these thoughts. Can't wait!
I also bought a copy of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, the only novel of hers that I was missing after lending my previous copy to someone (against my better judgement) several years ago. The person moved away, apparently taking my book with her... not that I hold a grudge or anything... at least, not much of one. In any case, Austen's Northanger Abbey, written in 1803, is a satire about Gothic novels, which were all the rage at the time. Its heroine is Catherine Morland, an intelligent and spirited 17 year old whose fondness for Gothic novels leads her to allow her imagination to run away with her. It's a very fun read.
