So what made me decide to get one? Well, one of my favourite non fiction authors was re-releasing a book of his with new material added, but only as an e book. While I have occasionally downloaded books onto my laptop, it's not exactly convenient, so I threw caution to the wind and now am happily e reading my new book. It's not at all bad, actually- the e reader, I mean (the book is great)- and I can foresee it getting a good deal of use. Not that I'll stop buying regular books; I'll be off to the bookstore this week to pick up the newest addition to a series I collect. After all, with all the other installments lined up on my book shelf, I'm hardly going to break up a complete set with an e book. My new e reader will supplement my book habit, not replace it.
Well, I finally broke down this week and bought an e reader, something I had resisted up until now. While liking the thought of carrying multiple books around without the bulk and weight, and the ability to download a lot of my favourite books for free (out of copyright), I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the reading experience as much using one. I love actual books... the ones I know so well that I can flip directly to the scene or phrase I'm looking for, my favourites with their dog ears and cracked spines, and well, pretty much all of the ones on my shelves. Also, as I look at my copies of Ivanhoe and Tom Brown's School Days, which belonged to my grandmother when she was a girl, it occurs to me that no e reader can provide the sense of connection and shared enjoyment which a book passed from one generation to another can.

About MeI'm a lover of good books, classic movies, and well-written shows (as well as some pretty cheesy ones, to be completely honest). Categories
