Apparently there was quite a bit of excitement for a little while; people called 911 assuming from the boom and shaking that there had been an explosion- we just don't get earthquakes around here. This resulted in police and fire engines showing up, looking for the explosion site until word came down that it had been a quake. If nothing else, this must have made the local seismologists day: it was the first tremor in Nova Scotia in 30 years... they must have been like kids at Christmas.
There was an aftershock around 1:30 am Tuesday morning and the boom woke me up, but the shaking from it either wasn't strong enough to reach my place, or not strong enough to wake me out of a sound sleep. So all in all, the whole thing has been a bust for me. Don't get me wrong: I'm very grateful that we are not prone to any form of natural disasters- other than an occasional hurricane- and that no real damage was done by our mini earthquake... I just wish that I had felt it.
